Memorial Day

Yesterday we were able to join my dad and my little sister Whitney at the cemetery to visit my Grandpa Vest's grave. He past away in March of 2006 and we have missed him every Sunday since. My family used to visit with my grandparents on Sundays and often enjoyed a nice dinner made by grandpa and a lesson given by grandma (I think that I am the only one who stayed awake for the lesson). Grandpa used to love taking pictures of the grand kids and telling us about the new tree he planted in the yard. He was great. This was the first time that I was able to see his headstone since it was placed in December. It was nice to see the names of my dads brothers and sisters on the back and see the completed project. I'm sure grandpa would be impressed.

We also enjoyed visiting Jon's grandma Wirthlin's grave. Ironically she is buried just feet from my grandpa Vest. This makes it very convenient. Jon's grandma can hardly be described in words. I can only say that it was an honor to have gotten to know her and to be a small part of the Wirthlin family. Grandma Wirthlin past away in August of 2006. We have missed visiting with her and I can always remember her little reminders in granddads ear. When I was dating Jon in high school she would whisper my name to him as they would approach me for a hello. We miss her dearly and enjoyed visiting her grave and telling our boys a little bit about their heritage.
